If you’re looking for an energy-efficient cooling system, then you may want to consider ductless air conditioning. Also known as a mini-split system, a ductless air conditioner gives homeowners the flexibility to zone their homes for optimized cooling, making them the perfect system for energy-savvy homeowners
Let our experts from WM Buffington Company explain how ductless air conditioning works.
How It Works
The operation of this particular cooling unit differs slightly from traditional split-system air conditioning. There are two main components to a ductless system: the outdoor unit and the indoor unit.
In a typical ductless air conditioning installation, warm air from inside your home is pulled in through the indoor unit. This warm air is then directed to the outdoor unit via a direct connection, where it’s then released through an exhaust system. Meanwhile, the outdoor unit draws in outside air, cools it in its heat exchanger and transfers the cooled air to its indoor counterpart to cool your home.
There’s a popular misconception about the ability of a ductless mini-split system to handle the cooling loads of medium-to-large homes. What many homeowners don’t know is that multiple indoor units can be connected in a network, with all of them connected to one or, depending on the load, two outdoor units. This means a ductless air conditioning system is just as effective at regulating the temperatures of multiple rooms as a regular split system.
Maintenance and Care
Installing a ductless system is also considerably more affordable than installing a traditional split system. Without the need for ductwork, home air conditioning repair and installation technicians no longer have to redo your ceilings and drywall after making repairs. Its maintenance needs are also reduced for the same reasons.
